My laptop is dead. Bye bye BB-LT (baby laptop). Gone. Forever. Nothing can be recovered from it. URGH.
Luckily, I backed up some things. Music, mostly, and a few folders of silly LOLcat photos. But I lost a lot of other important things.. a lot of photos. Going skiing, seeing Lady Gaga, bringing Posie home for the first time… sigh. Moral of the story – back EVERYTHING up, always. So now the hunt is on for a new one, not that I can afford one right now. Or maybe I’ll just have to concede that using this huge desktop (actually Nathan’s huge desktop) is not that bad.
Anyway, little updates now. I would blog about them properly, but it just feels so wrong blogging on another computer… I don’t get the little pop-ups from Outlook telling me when I have new emails, nor are my favourite songs running in a carefully picked playlist for the week. The colours aren’t ones that I picked, and BB-LT was a netbook with a 9-inch screen – everything else seems overwhelmingly huge.
So…
- I got a part-time job at a department store so I don’t feel like I’m wasting my life by going to university. Pros: money, a sense of doing something useful, the department manager seems to really like me and keeps using words like ‘succession planning’, ‘professional development’ and ’career progression opportunity’. Cons: I will be spending 20% of my wage on a train ticket to actually get there, trains are so junk that a 5 hour shift really means about 10-11 hours from when I leave the house to when I get home, and I have to work every single Friday night.
And that’s about it. Nothing exciting. Or I suspect my lack-of-laptop has put me in such a downward spin that I can’t think of anything else. Anyway, blogging will be non-magical and very sporadic for a little bit.. but when I’m back, I’ll be back!

Okay, I broke my laptop. This wouldn’t be such a tragedy if I had all my passwords and emails and stuff backed up in another location. I am very, very hopeful that it’s just a matter of slapping a band-aid on it! In the meantime, apologies for lack of posts, email replies or twitter action [...]

Okay not really. But sort of! My Mum’s hairdresser was doing some training courses to get some extra qualifications and needed a model for her exam, so I volunteered. For thrift-value, this is definitely tops – Hava cut my hair (including washing it, blow drying, styling – all things they usually charge extra for) completely [...]

I found this idea via a blog post and a forum I lurk at sometimes, and it seemed so absolutely cathartic. Everybody tries to put their best face forward in life, and on blogs too – online, it’s even easier to self-edit and present only the sparkliest, most interesting parts of your life. It’s easy to fall [...]

I love hand-me-downs! You definitely would not have caught me saying that as a kid, but I guess I can appreciate it more now. Having two sisters, a cousin and an aunt who are all within similar clothes and shoe sizes meant I was always getting bags and bags full of clothes to sort through- [...]

Like a lot of people, I can never find anything to wear. Or so it seems. It’s pretty illogical; considering the sheer volume of clothes I have, it always feels like I have no clothes! I end up wearing the same outfits over and over again, ignoring the rest of my wardrobe. Which is full [...]

It’s unnerving.. seeing people in films doing things exactly as you do them, saying things that you say, even executing tiny little mannerisms you thought were unique to you. Nobody is completely unique, it seems. Nath and I watched (500) Days of Summer the other night, and had mixed reactions. Most people I knew who [...]
